Yo foodies! There is a new burger and beer bistro located off the main street of Burgos Street in Lapaz, Iloilo City. BnB Bistro can be found along the serene residential area of Burgos Extension, i.e., the next side street after Iloilo Midwifery Academy of the Philippines (IMAP), or when coming from Lapaz Plaza. It serves burger in pitch black buns!
You can’t miss BnB once entering the extension road. Its concrete fence is painted with colorful bohemian images reminiscent of Jamaican drinking joints, alongside the rather staid row of homes. The bistro occupies a fenced-in front portion of the sprawling main garden of the Ganzon residence. BNB, run by the hardworking Jamie Marie Ganzon-Divinagracia, offers areas for quiet private conversations and study group discussions away from the public’s prying eyes.
“We always thought that gardening can be good for the mind and body,” said Jamie. “In addition to improving mood and reducing stress, and what better way to unwind than to eat good food with your family and friends in a place surrounded with plants and trees. We wanted to offer unique and affordable food for our customers, that’s why the burger buns are charcoal black — at the same time a place where they can unwind and really hang-out with their family, friends and loved ones. This is also the main reason why we didn’t provide any wifi for them so that they can leave their mobile phones and other gadgets in their bags and just enjoy the moment for what it is.”
How did BnB start, you may ask? It was actually the loyal customers and Jamie’s family who pushed the idea of putting a burger restaurant. “I started selling the burgers online, people would message me in facebook and instagram and I would deliver the burgers to them. It was very tiring but also fulfilling in my part since I love what I do. The original plan was to put up a take-out store; people will just order online then pick up the burgers in our store. One day my Mom talked me into putting up a garden-resto instead because she saw the possibility of a successful burger joint business.”
The best-seller are the burgers, of course. Customers swear the thick patty taste so delicious and juicy. Another specialty is the charcoal club sandwich, a three-decker with slices of sweet ham, bacon, scrambled egg, lettuce and tomatoes. “I guess we are the only ones that sell charcoal bunned burgers in Iloilo City, plus the fact that they are home-made and freshly baked every morning. We seek to appeal to a wide range of people from teens, to youth, young professionals, professionals and families and friends who love our charcoal burgers.”
Next question is: Why is the bread black? That you have to find out by yourself when you set foot on BnB.
